Comparative journalism research Gender gaps in journalism/ gender fair language in news Economic influences on journalism/ journalistic autonomy Media organizations Hybrid advertising The relationship of advertising and journalism
I am a post-doctoral researcher and the data manager of The Worlds of Journalism Study. My research focuses on journalistic autonomy and (economic) influences on journalism, the relationship of advertising sales departments and newsrooms, hybrid forms of advertising like native advertising, economics of news media, working conditions of journalists, gender gaps in journalism and gender-fair language in news. In particular, my work on news media economics, working conditions and gender gaps in journalism is closely connected to the safety of journalists. The economic challenges that many news media companies are facing affect the employment situation as well as the salaries of journalists around the globe and thereby put their well-being at risk. Atypical employment, which bears the risk of precarious working conditions, is highest among the female work force.
