Germany's third place in the Global Safety Index reflects the continued high standards and good working conditions for journalists in Germany. Threats at the institutional level are extremely rare, as well as risks to digital safety. Nevertheless, journalists in Germany have experienced increasing threats during the WJS3 field period, especially to their physical but also psychological safety. This could mainly be due to the Covid-19 pandemic, during which parts of the population agitated against the media, threatened journalists and in some cases even physically attacked them.
