Definition of journalists' safety

It is the extent to which journalists can perform their work-related tasks without facing threats to their physical, psychological, digital, and financial integrity and well-being. The current study focuses on journalists’ work-related/professional safety, described on the attributes of work systems reflecting the (low) likelihood of physical, mental or digital harm to persons, property, or the environment during work. For journalists, workplaces include their offices, reporting sites, and their homes. As a result, journalists’ safety should be understood as occupational safety because journalists’ safety is linked to their occupational activities as journalists.
