Prof. Dr. Vesselina Valkanova is Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”. She is a full time professor at Sofia University. Her scientific publications are in the field of media and communication, visual communication, online communication, visual culture. Prof. Valkanova is the founder and head of the Center for Media Studies at Sofia University, established in implementation of the project "Research on the media environment in Bulgaria - meta-analysis, methodology and approaches in the study of the impact of media transformations on social processes".

Definition of journalists' safety

Journalist safety includes physical protection, digital security and psychological resilience against threats, physical aggression and online harassment. It requires prior risk analysis, conflict de-escalation skills, data protection and knowledge of legal reporting procedures.
